This class is ideal for new players and those wanting to brush up on their chess skills. Over four weeks, you'll learn and review essential fundamentals, strategies, and tactics that bring the game to life. Each class includes an hour of focused instruction, followed by independent practice time to apply what you’ve learned with fellow students. Plus, you’ll discover the many surprising benefits of chess that go beyond the board. As an added bonus, we’ll periodically discuss fascinating insights into chess history, fun pop culture references, and current events that tie into the world of chess. Sharon Burtman, instructor and course creator, is the 1995 United States Women's Chess Champion and has over 30 years of chess teaching experience.
Class runs April 29–May 20. Open to all. Geared towards adults. Personal Chess Set Required: Contact adultprog@jccgb.org for recommended set options
