Come hear authors Ilan Stavans and Margaret Boyle regale you with recipes and stories from their lavish and luscious cookbook, Sabor Judio: The Jewish Mexican Cookbook. The book celebrates the fusion of Jewish and Mexican culinary traditions across generations, but it is much more than a cookbook. Sabor Judio is also a vibrant history of Jewish immigration to Mexico from 1492 to the present. It explains how flavors and dishes evolved in Mexican and Jewish kitchens and how they fused into a distinct cuisine. The result is a dynamic and delicious array of recipes and experiences. The recipes take you through the main meals of the day and dishes made for the Jewish holidays. Cooking and eating Mexican food will never be the same! This cookbook is the product of two award-winning, internationally known Jewish Mexican writers and foodies who spent a decade gathering recipes and personal narratives from Jewish Mexican households. Ilan Stavans is an award-winning cultural critic, linguist, translator, public speaker, editor, short-story writer, TV host, and New York Times best-selling author. His short stories have been adapted to screen (My Mexican Shivah), and stage. Margaret E. Boyle is Director of Latin American, Caribbean and Latinx Studies at Bowdoin College, and Associate Professor in Hispanic Studies. Her primary interests include Hispanic women's literary and cultural history, theater history and performance, and health humanities, including medical, spiritual and food cultures.
